OFFBEAT MARA CAMP, MASAI MARA

Private Game Drives · Sundowners · Cultural Journeys · Starlit Camps · Healing Wilderness

Morning: Private Charter from Wilson Airport, Nairobi

Your soulful safari begins with a private charter flight (approx. 45 min) from Wilson Airport to Mara-Olkiombo Airstrip. A warm, unhurried welcome awaits — no rush, just the scent of acacia and open sky.

11:00 AM: Check-in · Offbeat Mara Camp

Settle into your tented suite at Offbeat Mara — one of the Mara’s most intimate, owner-run camps nestled away from the crowds. Canvas walls, antique lanterns, hand-woven Maasai textiles, and a claw-foot bathtub with a savannah view. A slow welcome lunch is served beneath the fever trees.

4:00 PM: First Footsteps Game Drive

Your first drive is deliberately unhurried — let the Mara reveal herself at her own pace. No itinerary, just open plains, a seasoned guide, and the golden afternoon light. Sundowners poured in the bush as the plains glow crimson.

8:00 PM: Fireside Bush Dinner

Dinner is served around a crackling fire under a dome of stars. Simple, soulful Kenyan cuisine — nyama choma, roasted sweet potato, fresh avocado — and a night chorus of the wild.

5:30 AM: Pre-Dawn Bush Walk

Before the vehicles start, step out on foot with your armed ranger and Maasai tracker. The bush at dawn is a different world — fresh lion prints in the soil, dew on the grass, the air still and charged with possibility.

8:00 AM: Bush Breakfast

Return to camp for a leisurely breakfast set on the riverbank — freshly baked bread, eggs to order, Kenyan tea, and the sound of hippos in the water below.

10:00 AM: Midday Rest & Journaling

The midday heat is perfect for stillness. Rest in your tent, journal, read, or simply watch the plains from your private deck. A hammock is set up for you.

4:00 PM: Afternoon Game Drive — Big Cat Focus

Your guide has been tracking a coalition of cheetah and a pride of lion since morning. This evening, you follow their trails deep into the plains. Sundowners served beside a termite mound as the sky turns violet.

7:30 PM: Candlelit Dinner in the Bush

A table is set 200 metres from camp beneath an acacia tree — candles flickering, soft lanterns glowing, dinner served under a sky so clear you can trace the Milky Way with your finger.

7:00 AM: Morning Game Drive

A gentle morning drive through the northern Mara corridors — less trafficked, more raw. Breakfast sundowners set up in the field.

10:00 AM: Private Maasai Village Visit

Spend two meaningful hours in a traditional Maasai homestead. Not a tourist display — a genuine, respectful exchange. Learn the art of fire-making, hear oral histories, and sit with elders as they share the wisdom of the land. Browse handcrafted beadwork directly from the artisans.

1:00 PM: Lunch at Camp

A nourishing al fresco lunch back at camp — seasonal Kenyan produce, herbal teas, and a long, restorative afternoon.

3:30 PM: Golden Hour Photography Drive

This drive is all about light and stillness. Your guide positions the vehicle for the perfect compositions — no rushing, no convoy. Just the warm hour, the wildlife, and your camera.

7:30 PM: Stargazing & Night Safari

After dinner, a short night drive with a spotlight guide — serval cat, porcupine, and the amber glow of leopard eyes in the dark. Return to camp for hot cocoa and a guided stargazing session with a star map.

5:00 AM: Pre-Dawn Wake-Up

Fresh coffee and warm pastries are delivered to your tent. Transfer in the dark to the balloon launch site as the horizon turns a deep, luminous indigo.

5:30 AM: Sunrise Hot Air Balloon Safari

Drift silently over the vast Mara ecosystem as the sun rises. Below you — elephant herds moving to water, zebra in long ribbons across the plain, and if the timing holds, wildebeest massing at the river. Approximately 1 hour aloft, pure silence except for the occasional burst of the burner.

7:30 AM: Champagne Bush Breakfast

Land to a white-linen table set in the open wilderness. Sparkling wine, farm-fresh eggs, artisan bread, and tropical fruit. A truly soul-stirring Mara moment.

10:00 AM: Return to Camp · Spa & Rest

A full restorative morning. Choose a bush massage, a soak in your outdoor tub, or complete quiet in your tent with the canvas open to the breeze.

4:00 PM: Mara River Sundowner Drive

A slow, contemplative drive to the Mara River — the heartbeat of the ecosystem. Watch hippos sparring, crocodiles sunning, and elephants drinking at the crossing. Sundowners poured on the riverbank as the sky blazes.

6:00 AM: Full-Day Mara Triangle Excursion

Cross into the Mara Triangle — a less-visited, remarkably pristine sector managed by the Mara Conservancy. Your guide navigates corridors where the Great Migration channels and predator density is exceptional. A full picnic lunch is served in the field beneath an acacia grove.

2:00 PM: Guided Nature Walk

On foot, with a trained ranger, discover the micro-world of the Mara — medicinal plants, dung beetle colonies, bird calls, and the tracks of the night. A deeply grounding experience that no vehicle can give you.

5:00 PM: Return Drive & Camp Sundowners

A leisurely return to camp as the golden hour does its slow, magnificent work. Sundowners served on the camp deck with fellow travellers or alone in your own corner of the wild.

8:00 PM: Chef’s Table Dinner

An intimate, bespoke dinner prepared by your camp chef using foraged herbs and local produce. A single long table, candles, wine, and conversation that deepens under the stars.

6:30 AM: Dawn Meditation Walk

Begin the day in stillness. A guided 45-minute walking meditation led by your guide through the camp surrounds — barefoot on the earth, eyes open, breath slow. No phone, no camera. Just you and the morning.

8:30 AM: Slow Breakfast & Free Morning

A completely free morning. No schedule. Some guests read, some sketch, some simply sit and watch impala graze fifty metres from the tent. Your camp team is on standby for anything you need.

2:00 PM: Afternoon: Return to the Migration Crossing

If timing aligns (peak season: July–October), the afternoon could deliver the defining scene of the Mara — thousands of wildebeest gathering on the bank, the tension building, and then the crossing begins. Your guide knows these rhythms intimately.

6:30 PM: Private Sundowner on a Kopje

Drive out to a granite kopje in the fading light. Your team sets up a small table, two chairs, cold drinks, and a silence so complete it feels like a gift. One of the Mara’s most sacred views.

8:00 PM: Farewell Eve Dinner at Camp

A celebratory last-night dinner. Your camp team has prepared something special. Stories are shared, thanks given, and the wild feels, for a moment, like home.

7:00 AM: Final Dawn Game Drive

One last early-morning drive. No agenda — just gratitude, open eyes, and the Mara in her morning glory. Your guide will take you somewhere quiet, somewhere only they know.

9:30 AM: Farewell Bush Breakfast

A slow, unhurried breakfast set in the bush — a deliberate final ritual before the pace of the world returns. Your camp family gathers to say goodbye. Personalised handmade gifts and a heartfelt send-off.

12:00 PM: Check-out & Transfer to Airstrip

Your butler accompanies you to the airstrip. The Mara stretches out one last time as the small plane climbs — and you carry something home that can’t be packed.

2:30 PM: Private Charter Back to Nairobi

Board your charter flight back to Wilson Airport, Nairobi. Toast the journey with a parting glass and let the landscape below remind you of everything you felt down there.
